Halloween

We had a pretty chill Halloween. I already posted the pictures of our pumpkin patch adventure with Jacob and Serene. We carved the "Y" pumpkin for my grandparents and carved to pumpkins for ourselves. I was worried Matthew would think the pumpkins were balls and shove them down our concrete stairs, but luckily he pretty much left them alone. For Halloween, we dressed Matthew up as a pilot, mostly because we already had a bomber jacket for him. I have big plans for next year, though. Mark and I bought a bunch of candy, figuring that living in a neighborhood with lots of kids we would need it. On the contrary, we barely had anyone stop by. All the kids would go down the other side of the street - my direct neighbors both had their houses decked out - but few came down our side. Oh well, more candy for us. The coolest kid I saw was this little boy - maybe 2 or 3 - in a motorized wheelchair. His wheelchair was covered in cardboard to make him Thomas the Train. It was pretty awesome.

Pumpkins

On Saturday, Jacob and Serene were in town, and they got to come with us to go get our pumpkins. Last year, we got pumpkins with Aaron, this year with Jacob - I think next year might be Benjamin's turn. We decided to go to Day Farms, a farm in West Layton. Our tickets included a hayride out the pumpkin patch at the far end of the farm and then a pumpkin for each of us. Matthew loved being at the pumpkin patch - there were "balls" everywhere. Then tonight, Mark and I carved the pumpkins while Matthew watched. Then we surprised my grandparents with a BYU pumpkin and some cookies. To give credit where credit is do, Jacob is the one who thought of carving a "Y" on a pumpkin for grandpa, but we decided that train game was more important that pumpkin carving last night.

Snow!

This past week, we got our first major snow of the year. I'm not sure that Matthew really remembers what snow is. I bundled him all up to go outside, but we don't have any mittens for him. I'll have to go buy some. I tried using some socks instead, but those did not last long. Matthew was slightly intrigued by the snow, but once he learned it was cold to the touch, he lost interest quickly. We did go on a walk on the snow covered sidewalks, which he rather enjoyed. That is, until he fell one to many times and his hands got too cold. It was a fun novelty to have the snow for a day or so, but I'm glad we will be back in the '60s this week.
