5 months old

Hannah is 5 months old! My little girl is getting so big. She learned how to roll over last week. She first did back to front, then after a few days added front to back to her repertoire. Soon she'll be rolling all over my house. Her other changes this month are that she moved into Matthew's room. They actually do really well together, and it had made bedtime easier on Matthew having someone else in his room. She also had her first stomach bug and first cold, which is not exciting news, but novel, I guess. She loves to smile, and always wants to sit up, which can be taxing since she can't do it by herself. It'll be fun to see what this next month has in store.

I didn't take a photo of her all the way on her stomach

This was a really cute picture with Matthew right behind Mark,
but Matthew moved when he saw the camera.

All I can say is that he is a natural athlete.

A Sunday night

Yesterday, we had Mark's family over for dinner, and of course I forgot to take any pictures. But I did pull the camera out just before bedtime to take some pictures of the kids. My mom keeps hinting that she wants more photos and videos, so I've included these just for her.

Home Improvements

I've been a little more proactive about getting some projects done around the house, and I wanted to share a few. My first project was to paint my master bathroom. I had my dad prep it last Christmas, but then I just never went through with it. So I finally sat down and picked out my paint colors. I decided to paint stripes to add a bit of interest to our tiny bathroom. It turned out really well, and I learned quite a bit about painting it.

My other project was to paint the wood trim around the French doors to the deck. It was in desperate need of painting. So about two Saturdays ago, I decided that I was just going to do it. I prepped it all, and was ready to paint around 5ish. It was overcast, but I could have sworn the weather forecast said it wasn't supposed to rain. So Mark took the kids for a walk to keep them away from the paint, and I set to work. It doesn't take that long to paint wood trim. But at about halfway through the wind pics up. The wind gets stronger and stronger, and then it starts sprinkling. We have an awning over the doors, so I decided to leave it out to help protect my paint and I quickly finished. Meanwhile, Mark's at the park with Matthew and Hannah. Suddenly there is a big flash of lightning close by, and Matthew decides to wants to go home. Mark starts walking home, and the wind starts really picking up. He realizes it's time to start running home (he had the jogging stroller, thankfully). So I'm rushing to peel the painter's tape and get everything inside and it starts raining hard. Mark gets home just then and starts to help. Then it starts hailing and we are still trying to get everything inside. The deck was covered in hail. Luckily, my paint job survived the rain and hail just fine.

Before: I hated the beige color

After: Stripes!

See my nice paint job on the trim.

Naked Babies

I realized that I have no pictures of Hannah just in her diaper. When Matthew was a baby, I was always taking naked pictures of him, but with Hannah, I always seem to have her dressed. One day last month, Matthew was refusing to get dressed, so I decided to take some naked baby pictures of the two of them. The lighting is terrible when I had them on my bed, but when I moved them to the floor, Matthew was not in the mood for any more pictures.

County Fair and the Zoo

We took the kids to the Davis County Fair, which I was extremely excited for. The fair was advertising for a petting zoo, pony rides, elephants, diving dogs. Unfortunately, for some reason we ended up going at 1 p.m. at it was miserably hot. Matthew had a good time, though. He was a bit of a chicken in the petting zoo. Mark had to hold him the hold time, and he would just quickly reach out and touch the animal and then swiftly pull his hand back, but he would smile the whole time. There was also an exhibit where these dog would competitively jump into a pool of water. Apparently it's a sport or something. It's been a month, and Matthew still talks about the "Dog jump in the water." He's gotten to the age where he remembers events and talks about them for weeks.

Two weeks ago, I took the two kids to the zoo after Hannah's 4 month checkup. It was my first big solo outing with the two kids. I decided to take my umbrella stroller, which was a great choice. Matthew pushed it around the whole time, but he's just tall enough to be able to see where he is going. I have one cute story from our zoo trip. While we were walking back towards the exit, Matthew was taking forever. Suddenly, he lies down on his stomach on the pavement. "What are you doing?" I ask him, to which he replies, "I'm swimming." Then he actually starts trying to swim, kicking his feet and swinging his arms, slowly inching forward. It was hilarious, and utterly random.
