Hannah Katherine Robison

Hannah Katherine Robison
born 26 April 2013 at 10:34 a.m.
weighing 9 lbs
21.5 inches long

So Hannah finally arrived. Her arrival was actually rather convenient. I woke up around 5:30 a.m. and my water broke. There was no big gush of fluid like with Matthew - just a very slow leak. The only reason I suspected it was my water breaking was because I had experienced it before. Then, contractions started kicking in about 5 minutes apart. Mark had been telling the baby all along that she needed to kick labor off right at 6 a.m. so he could get a good night's sleep but wouldn't have to go to work, and she was very accomodating. We got Matthew up, and dropped him off at a neighbors a little before 7.

We got to the hospital a little before 8 - which timing was perfect because about an hour later my grandmother got stuck in really bad traffic trying to come. The nurses took there time getting around to checking me and then they left again. After a while being left alone, I call asking for an epidural. Part of me felt silly because I hadn't been there very long, but my contractions were really hurting. That got the nurses' attention. They came back and realized I was really going quick, so they had to rush off questions, since I hadn't actually been admitted yet, and hurry to set up an IV. The anesthesiologist came and came me my epidural around 9. I just love modern medicine. I got to just relax for about 40 minutes, and then I told the nurse she should probably check me again - and I was ready to go. The nurse was supposed to have me start pushing - last time I had to push for 2 1/2 hours - but after maybe 2 practice pushes she decided to stop and have us wait for my doctor to arrive. So we just sat and chatted for about 20 minutes. Dr. Laine arrived and after just a few pushes, it was all over.

The funny thing was, the day before at my checkup, Dr. Laine had predicted a seven pound baby. But I knew better; that's what they said with Matthew, and he was over eight and a half pounds. Sure enough, when they weighed her she was nine pounds. Actually, she was 8 pounds, 15.9 ounces, but the hospital decided to round it up the final tenth. I realize after this delivery that my last delivery was really hard. Even though she was bigger than Matthew, this time things went really quick; I didn't need any stiches; my epidural lasted the entire time; and I felt so much better. We ended up leaving the hospital by Saturday afternoon because both Hannah and I were doing great. My recovery has gone extremely well - I feel pretty much back to my pre-pregnant self. Hannah is doing so well and Matthew is adjusting just fine to having a baby sister. We have definitely been blessed.

The baby better come soon

39 weeks, 5 days and 26 pounds

Last days as an only child

Last Friday, Mark had the day off so the three of us spent the day in Salt Lake. First, I dropped off the boys at Temple Square while I had a doctor visit. They went up to the Observation Deck on the Church Office Building and played at the kids area in the new City Creek mall. I joined them at the mall, and we ate lunch at the Nauvoo Café in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, which was very good. When we first saw our food, we were a bit worried because the portions looked so small, but it was actually extremely filling.

The original plan was for me to drive Matthew back home and Mark was going to take the train back after doing some things at the University of Utah, but then we remembered that Mark's dad was in Salt Lake on business. Since he was already planning to come up to our house for dinner, we thought Mark could get a ride up with him. Well, it turns out his driver's license had expired a few weeks ago on his birthday, and he hadn't realized it. So he couldn't rent a car and was also planning to take the train. By the time we had finished lunch, we decided that it would just be best for Matthew and I to hang around until they were both finished. So we dropped Mark off at the U, and went to a nearby park. Matthew loved being in the city and seeing all the trucks and trains and buses. And to cap off the day, we got to have Grandpa Robison over for dinner. Matthew was pretty worn out, but he sure had a lot of fun.
