Matthewisms

I've been meaning to write this for a few months now, but I want to record some of the cute things Matthew has done.

You Okay?
For a while, Matthew would ask "You Okay?" whenever you sneezed or coughed. He actually still does it somewhat. It has now extended to his injuries. If he hits his head, he says "head okay?" until you ask him "Is your head okay?" Then he decides he's fine.

Prayers
For a while, Matthew was on this kick where he wanted all his stuffed animals to say bed time prayers with him. One night, when prayers were announced, Matthew grabbed his teddy bear and said, "Teddy pray?"
     "Yes, Teddy can pray."
Then Matthew sat Teddy next to the bed to pray with us.
The next night, Matthew got more ambitious. When prayers were announced, Matthew grabbed his teddy bear and said, "Teddy pray?"
    "Yes, Teddy can pray."
    "Giraffe, pray"
    "Yes, Mr. Giraffe can pray."
    "Duck pray?"
    "Yes, the duck can pray."
    "Dinosaur pray?"
     "Yes, the dinosaur can pray."
He would line each one up next to his bed. Matthew would line each one up next to his bed for prayers. However, the thing is, Matthew actually has five stuffed animals. He also has an elephant that for some reason, was not invited to pray with us. Mark and I would joke that the elephant was a heathen.
After a while of this, one day, Matthew asked if the elephant could pray. He must have finally converted him. Then he asked if his blanket could pray. Having all his animals pray with us ends up taking a while, so the blanket was the last straw.
     "No, the blanket can't pray."
Matthew was disappointed, but fine with it. The next night, Mark put Matthew to bed. The same procedure occurred, but after Matthew listed all his animals, he turned to Mark and said: "Blanket no pray."

Bye Bye
When we put Matthew to bed, we would have him say bye-bye to me or Mark. Matthew decided he enjoyed this concept of bedtime. He started expanding his bye-bye's to random objects in the room, the couch, the chair, his toys, etc. But after a while, would tell him to say good night to Mama, and he'd look straight at me, and then say goodnight to everything else, except me.

No No Baby
When I was pregnant, we would explain to Matthew that I had a baby in my tummy. Matthew seemed to grasp the concept somewhat. But then, when I had the baby, we had to explain that there wasn't a baby in my tummy anymore; we had Hannah instead. For weeks after that, he would point to my stomach and say "no no baby."

Basketball Hoops
We gave Matthew a basketball hoop when he turned one, and he became obsessed with basketball hoops. Whenever we went on walks, he would point at every basketball hoop we passed by, and exclaim, "Basketball!" He would repeat it insistently until we would say "basketball hoop."

Rock-a-bye
Matthew is really into singing right now. He really likes when I sing Rock-a-bye Baby. Sometimes, I would sing "Rock-a-bye Matthew" to him instead. Now he enjoys requesting different versions of the song. "Rock-a-bye chair" or "Rock-a-bye house." He pretty much just casts his eyes around the room to find an object for his rock-a-bye song.

Around the House

Not much is going on around here. We've most just been hanging out at home, doing some small projects. The kids get bigger and bigger every time I close my eyes. We had a fun visit on Sunday with Mark's family. We went down to Anna's apartment for Oktoberfest. Anna made bratwursts, which were delicious. Her apartment is really cute, it made me want to redo some of the things for my house. It was fun to see Michael and John, too. I just wanted to update with some pictures.

General Conference

Today for General Conference, we had Aaron and Benjamin up for a conference party. We watched the afternoon session together, and then grilled out on the deck. I wanted Jess to take some pictures of Hannah for her baby book, and it evolved into a super cute photo shoot. She is an amazing photographer. A few notes: First, we had to bribe Matthew to sit next to Ayden by giving him my camera. That's why it's in all the pictures. Second, I actually took the last three pictures.

The Haircut

On Friday, I went in for my first haircut since August 2012. I came home all excited and when Mark saw me, he laughed at me. Worst husband ever. I wanted to really change it up, so I added some bangs and layers. At the end, the hairstylist asked if she wanted me to curl it. I think the last time I had my hair curled was at my wedding, so I agreed for fun. The result was an 80s rocker look. Fun, but not quite me. I guess I shouldn't hold it against Mark for laughing at me, though I, of course still will.

Happy 90th Birthday

Mark's Grandma Hazel is turning 90, so Mark's mom had us take some pictures for a collage she is making. Here are my super cute pictures from our photo shoot.

Random Pictures

Here are just some random pictures and stories.

Matthew watching tv.

First snow of the year - really just ice.

Story #1: The other night after we put Matthew to bed, I could hear him talking in his room. I went up to investigate whether he was complaining or just jabbering. What do I hear? "Oooo! What is that?! Is that an airplane?'"

Story #2: This morning, I woke up about 5ish and realized our door was wide open, as was Matthew's. I ask Mark if he had opened the door, which he hadn't. Then Mark gets up and realizes Matthew is sound asleep in the hallway next to our door. The funniest part is that Mark just left him there for the rest of the night.
