Hanging out with Cameron

Last Wednesday, I babysat my friend's 9 month old son, Cameron. He's a cutie, but oh so mobile. I'm not ready for Matthew to be that active. I thought I had baby-proofed my house before he came, and I was so mistaken. He could get into everything. To make matters worse, he likes to pull up on things to stand up. It was funny because basically half of the stuff in my living room ended up in my bedroom. Of course, whenever I put Matthew somewhere, Cameron would instantly want to play with him. Luckily, Matthew took a nap halfway through, so I didn't have both babies the whole time. It was definitely a learning experience.

Cameron just loved Matthew. I'm not sure if Matthew felt the same way.

His First Word

Matthew is sure growing up. He said his first word this weekend. We were sitting outside and my brother Jacob had Matthew in his lap. In a lull in the conversation, Matthew turns to me and says, "Hey." Jacob and I were just stunned. It was hilarious. This week he has also learned to squeal, which is rather amusing. Last week, Diana commented on how quiet he is. Well, he is quiet no more. Other milestones: He is getting close to sitting up. He can sometimes do it, but needs a bit of support behind him or else he falls backwards. He has also discovered his feet. I think rolling over wil be coming soon.

A Baby Jumperoo

We borrowed a Fisher Price Jumperoo from my brother. At first, Matthew didn't seem to like it, which was disappointing. I was hoping it would provide hours of fun (or at least half hours). But he would just hold on for dear life. Luckily, it just took him a little while to get used to it. Once I demonstrated how to jump, he picked it up very quickly. Though, I think he might still prefer to watch Mommy jumping up and down than doing it himself.

Silver Lake

Yesterday, we drove up Big Cottonwood Canyon and did a nice little nature walk around Silver Lake. It's up by Brighton Ski Resort. The lake was really pretty and the mountain air felt so fresh. And the best part: we got some nice family shots (except the nice person who took our picture cut off Mark's head).

As a side note, I also realized why pictures of me vs. pictures of Mark at the same location look very different. I'm just a much better photographer than Mark. I submit the following photos as evidence:

4 months old

Matthew turned 4 months old about a week and a half ago, but I finally went to the pediatrician today. He weighs 16 lb 5 oz and is 25.5 inches long. That puts him about the 70th percentile. He's definitely not a small baby. I finally finished decorating his nursery. Luckily, Matthew condescends to let Mark and I put our bed in his nursery. I think he likes the mobile I made him. I catch him staring at it from time to time. Regardless, I love watching the mobile spin as I lie in bed. So I would consider it a success.

The only anecdote I can think of is my war with Matthew the other night. He went to sleep just fine, but woke up about 2:30. Then the battle began. He got himself back to sleep after a few minutes. However, he decided he wanted to sleep with his blanket covering his face. I did not want him to sleep with a blanket covering his face. Thus, a few minutes later, I would carefully remove the blanket from his face. Matthew did not seem to care for my motherly concern, because he would wake up and we would do it all over again. We repeated this cycle on and off for two and half hours. I'm not sure who won, but Mark was definitely the loser - he had to get up and feed Matthew at 5am.

What a lazy bum.
